Ms. Oliva BAZIRETE is a registered midwife, PHD student, currently Lecturer at the University of Rwanda, College of Medicine and Health Sciences in Midwifery department. She is in charge of Continuous Professional Development-CPD at Rwanda Association of Midwives-RAM.
She is involved in developing and delivering modules to be taught to midwifery students in midwifery department. She has coordinated the bachelor’s degree program of midwifery for the last 2 years. For the last 3 years, she worked as a focal person of the blended learning program providing in service training for nurses and Midwives of the southern province of Rwanda about maternal and new born health related issues.
She is also focal person of UNFPA- Rwanda in midwifery department – College of Medicine and Health Sciences. She is a member of the College Teaching and Learning Committee. She got her master’s Degree in nursing, stream Advanced Midwifery and Neonatology from the University of the Western Cape in the Republic of South Africa, she completed her bachelor’s degree in Nursing education and her midwifery training from the University of Rwanda. She is working for the University of Rwanda since 2003.
Her previous professional experience includes Clinical practice in Maternity within hospital and Health centers settings. She attended and had oral presentations in different regional and international conferences focusing on Nursing education as well as maternal and new born health.
Oliva Bazirete is married, and Rwandese by nationality. She is good in English, French, and Kinyarwanda. Reading, dancing and chatting with friends are her hobbies. Research Interest: Maternal and New born Health
The vision of the Rwanda Association of Midwives (RAM) is that midwifery becomes a core and basic service in all health facilities with maternal and newborn health services and that a midwife’s care is easily accessible to all Rwandans.
